And to those who actually won one of the one hundred copies given away, I truly hope you enjoy the stories. Thank you for taking the time to read them.
A friend of mine, having reread this book recently, asked me if I had a favorite story from the book. This always varies, I guess, depending on my mood and what stories come to mind. There were the many times I had to proofread the stories, of course. I would have a story in mind that I would think was really good; but then upon reading it over I would be less impressed with that particular one and another one would surprise me and seem better than I had remembered.
There is one story in the book that is sort of a “sleeper.” I always forget about it. It sits quietly until someone mentions it. Then I’m like, “Oh yeah, I forgot about that one.” The story is called, “The Homecoming.” It is written well enough, overall, but the ending is what makes it work. The ending is nice and warm, sort of touches the heart. I have to say that story is a little bit special. Another friend that I had sent the book to had said, SPOILER ALERT (sort of) “I wonder if my daughter will be there to meet me when I die?” I had forgotten that years earlier he and his then wife had had a little girl who had died. He was simply musing, of course, which was good because I wouldn’t have been able to give him an answer. I didn’t know what he was talking about at first, until he mentioned the story. Oh yeah, I thought, I forgot that one. It is a ghost story with a nice ending.
Anyway, THANK YOU, again to all who entered. And to those who won, Thanks for reading. I appreciate you all very much!
