I usually try and have the Pirate Tales giveaway start or end on International Talk like a Pirate Day, which is September 19 every year. The day sneaked up on me and I tried to submit the giveaway two days before the big day. There is a three-day review period for submissions, however, so the contest started a day after the target date. No matter, the contest is still on until Oct 9 so you can still get in on the fun.

Pirate Tales

Giveaway ends October 09, 2023.

If you want to see what the stories are about you are welcome to read the very last story of the book. I posted it over three posts a while back. Just look on the webpage for the archived posts (right hand side, “Archives”). Scroll down to below the archived posts and you’ll see a category called “Stories.” This category is where I put posts that contain complete stories that I’ve presented at various times in the posts. There is also a category called “Posts containing my creative snippets” that contains creative bits that I’ve written on the fly, or off the cuff as it were, while writing a post, if you are interested in checking out those as well. I’ll try and post the links here to the three posts that have the three sections of the end story; but if something goes awry with the links you’ll now know where to find the story sections on your own.
Anyway, the story is called “Marooned.” It’s a little wordy, especially in the beginning, with character ramblings. You’ll understand why this is so by the end.
“Marooned” is one of my favorite stories from the book. I sort of wanted to expand it and have a cat and mouse game between two of the characters . . . I can’t tell you much more than this without spilling too much. I also have thought about somehow combining this story with another story, also from the book, called “You Seen Him?” into a novel. In the end of that story *Spoiler Alert* the main characters find a purported treasure map. I have toyed with the idea that perhaps the map leads to the very island in the story “Marooned.”
Probably my other favorite story from the book would be “Cap’n’s Eyes,” which is the first story in the book. And since it is the first story, you can read it on Amazon by clicking the “Read Sample” button (I guess they’ve changed the “Look Inside” feature to this) on the Amazon page for the book.
So, anyway, there you go, two free stories from the book to check out before you even enter the contest! You’ll have an idea of what’s in the book, which should help you decide whether or not you want to enter the contest. I hope you decide to enter. After all, what have you got to lose? Even if you win the book you don’t have to read it right away—You could wait until next September 19, which is, of course, International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
